Quebec Provincial Council

The Quebec Provincial Council is one of 11 Provincial Councils in The Catholic
Women's League of Canada (one for each of the 10 provinces which includes the
territories, and the 11th council being that of the Military Ordinariate).

There are four levels of the CWL, National,
Provincial, Diocesan and Parish.

The Canadian bishops have given us an English organization mandate and
therefore our CWL Parish Councils are rooted in English churches.

Being a Catholic organization, with member's spiritual growth our first concern
places us apart from other volunteer organizations.

Our ladies give considerable time to help in their parishes, communities and
through the League in other countries.  Each council has their own Executive and
hold General Meetings on a monthly basis.  We accumulate many hours of
volunteer work through fundraisers and good deeds.

We are very interested in social justice and our voice is heard through our
Resolutions.  Both Provincial and National delegations visit their respective
governments with our concerns via our Resolutions.

Annual Conventions are held at both Diocesan and Provincial level.  At Provincial
level we produce an Annual Report Book, an accumulation of the good works
accomplished through the year.

In the Province of Quebec, we have a membership of just over 1,200 ladies
working out of 27 Parish Councils, throughout 7 Dioceses; Montreal, Quebec, St.
Hyacinthe, St. Jean/Longueuil, St. Jerome, Sherbrooke and Valleyfield.

  • Did you know that the CWL currentlly has a membership of nearly 100,000 Catholic women in
    Canada?

  • The Catholic Women's League is a national organization rooted in gospel values calling its members
to holiness through service to the people of God.

  • Members of the League are dedicated to the preservation of Christian family life, the rights of the
unborn, as well as many other social justice issues.

  • Did you know that our League attracts women with varied backgrounds: homemakers, lawyers,
doctors, counselors, secretaries and teachers?  These multi-talented women are capable of drafting
resolutions that deal with topics that concern the welfare of people.  When delegates at the annual
national convention adopt these resolutions, they are presented for discussion by members of the
national executive to various government departments during their annual meetings.   Many of these
resolutions are eventually passed into law, to be acted upon by government agencies.

  • Did you know the CWL passed the following resolutions at the national convention in 2009?
  • 2009.01 > Exit Strategies for Prostituted Persons
